Lady Ophelia gets a kicking!

Week 44 of Darcy's Postcard Challenge, and Lady Ophelia is in SLOVENIA.
In 1895 Slovenia was a Crown land of the Austria-Hungarian Empire, called Carniola. The largest town was Ljubljana, which is now the capital of modern day Slovenia.
The national flower of Slovenia is the red Carnation
My dear Lillian,
We are currently visiting Ljubljana in the province of Carniola. They were struck by a terrible earthquake on Easter Sunday of this year, and Richard wants to see if they are still in need of assistance. Many of the buildings are still shored-up with beams and posts, and it is thought they may just have to rebuild the whole town.
The baby is incredibly active at the moment, and when he thinks no one is looking, Richard sits with his hand on my tummy. He says if it is a boy, it is going to be a footballer...what is it with men and this "football" obsession?
I think the baby will not be long now. I am finding the constant travelling extremely uncomfortable at the moment. Miss Francesca is making our journeys as comfortable as possible, but my back is aching more than ever.
Your tired, but excited friend, Ophelia xxx"

"My darling Ophelia,
I do wish Sir Richard would make you come home to have your baby. I am sure Miss Francesca is quite competent to look after your needs, and that Sir Richard will find you the best doctors available when your time comes, but we are all so worried about you.
I remember the news reports around Easter. Such a frightening event on the Holiest of days...and one must believe that is the reason so few lives were lost.
I miss you, and pray you return home soon.
Your ever devoted friend, Lillian xxx"

Enjoy :D XXX

  1. Love your carnation postcard! :) I've been to the gallery when there was a 100th anniversary of that earthquake and it was fabulous to see the old photos. I didn't know we had palm trees back then in Ljubljana. :))
