Birthing Love.
Pacing round my bed I wait for you.
"Take the tablets .." the nurse nags,
"They will help with the pain."
But I refuse.
The pain is necessary.
It is not the hurt of some random injury...
I catch my breath and think of you.
Tears of love welling in my eyes,
that love growing stronger with every pulsing spasm you inflict.
They try to make me hate the pain of your arrival,
but I just smile.
How can I not love you when so much effort was put into your creation?
Did I not accept the consequences?
"You don't have to feel this pain Mrs Morley...we have drugs to ease it...you don't have to feel a thing..."
But I WANT to feel...I WANT to love...I WILL survive....
Because the pain serves a purpose!
(pencil sketches of my firstborn at 4-6weeks)
Both my babies have very round solid skulls so a bit difficult to birth, but more than worth the effort :D
Enjoy XXX
Oh how I wish I had been there, to hear you roaring at that nurse, to growl at here and bare my teeth.
ReplyDeleteThere is pain that shapes us into who we must become; your pain made people, and that's a miracle worth all the trouble. ♥
*I made the anaesthetist cry*...not deliberately, but she had been on duty for 48hrs straight (bank holiday weekend) and the nurses kept calling her to make me have an epi....it didn't work lol
DeleteI chose a VBAC with my daughter's birth (my son's was an emergency C section 3 years before) and your poem brought back the memories of her birth, especially when I got to hold my wiggle worm for the first time.Thank you for that :)

ReplyDeleteReally a great choice of topic for this--and while I was the opposite, screaming for someone to hit me over the head with a sledgehammer ;_) I totally respect and admire this brave and loving stance. Very well expressed.
ReplyDeleteLol...we each follow our own paths :D
DeleteA desired wish coming true can make the sacrifice of pain worthwhile. Lovely raw words Gina, pure emotion.
