Fangs for the fun Ayala :[)

Face no.29 of my 29 Faces for May
AEDGYTH (pronounced Edith)

This is the last of my faces for the fabulously entertaining challenge set by Martha at Ayala Art, which was to create and post about 29 faces through the month of May.
For the last post, she has encouraged us to try a technique we haven't used  before. It took me a while, but then I realised I've never done a face where you draw in the light. I usually start with the shadows first.
So a grabbed a piece of black card and my white marks all pencil and went for it :D
I "LOVE" this face!!!
It is my piece for this weeks challenge at The Butterfly Effect, the theme is Vampires...can I hear you scream..."WHAaaaaaaaaaaaa.......!"

Hope you've enjoyed seeing these daily faces as much as I've enjoyed making them.
Thank you again Martha :D

Meng Po

Face no.28 of my 29 Faces for May
Today I am a little sad, as this is the last of my 13 Goddesses
MENG PO
She is the Chinese Goddess of the underworld, who guides the dead through the maze of trials, before they can be reborn.
She is known as the Goddess of Forgetfulness
because, once a soul has completed the trials that await it, she provides it with a cup of her "5 Flavoured Tea"...
which causes them to instantly forget their previous existence, and their visit to the underworld. This allows them to be reborn without "baggage" as we would say :D
My 13th and final Goddess, The Chinese Goddess, Meng Po.

Thank you Simona for hosting this marvellously inspirational challenge :D
Pleasant Dreams :D XXX

Faces no. 26 and 27 of my 29 Faces for May
Natasha and Sebastian(well that's what I'm calling them)

I have coloured them with promarkers...because it was just too hot to do anything else :D
And just colouring is fun !!! Get yours HERE
I am posting 2 faces today, because tomorrow my blog is being visited by the wonderful Magaly, who is promoting her new e-book. It is a short story called "AlmaMia Cienfuegos"..a story of Blood Scars and Nightmares!, and you can read an excerpt HERE
And if you think this post is creepy, just wait til Tuesday! Final face of my 29faces for May so I really have to combine it with The Butterfly Effects Challenge which will be "VAMPIRES" mwahahahahaha :[

Run Forest, run!

Face no.24 of my 29 Faces for May
CHARLIE
Can't believe we have nearly finished this fabulous challenge from Ayala's Art !!!
I,gessoed, spritzed  and ink blobbed my page, and could see a partial figure...
so I rummaged through some film mags til I came across this guy, who fit the outline just about as perfectly as it could be.
He reminded me of a "treehugger" running to tie himself to a tree, at many a protest against the destruction of ancient trees. The name Charlie just seems to suit him :D
Enjoy :D XXX

St Ubaldus...patron St of Autism?

Face no.22 of my 29 Faces for May
ST UBALDUS
I have chosen to work with St Ubaldus for The Butterfly Effects "Patron Saint" challenge, because he is listed as patron against Autism :S Now I'm not sure how that works...is praying to him supposed to ward of Autism, or protect those who suffer from it's effects?
In the time honoured tradition of the medieval forger/pilgrim, I decided to make an icon of this saintly gentleman...(I have several of these gorgeous metal/pewter frames)
I gessoed the base card and sketched a likeness...
and did a simple water colour image.
Tried to make it look old and faded...
then added gems, real hair to his head and beard(allegedly from the man himself, as in all good relics), and glazed with crackle glaze(which is very reflective sorry)
St Ubaldus was reputedly a kind, patient and gentle man, who bravely protected  Gubbio, by convincing the Emperor Frederick Barbarossa not to sack the city in the 1100's. He actually wanted to be a hermit, and died of natural causes.
I believe he would be very understanding of people with Autistic tendencies :D XXX

Kunapipi

May I introduce my 12th Goddess, and the21st of my 29 Faces  for May
KUNAPIPI
She is another Creator/Mother Goddess, this time of the Aboriginal people of Australia :D
It is belived that she brought the 1st Ancestors to live in Australia, and is associated with fertility, birth and death.
She is often symbolised with a Rainbow serpent, and is said to have taught the 1st people the words to the Dreamtime songs.
Her followers believe that all souls are born twins, and that one remains with Kunapipi, so that when we die we will be drawn back to it and her.
Struggled with her teeth !!!!, but think I managed to tone down her infectious smile on the finished image(1st on post)
I can't believe this challenge has almost ended, but next week is the last of my 13 Goddesses!

Underwater world

This weeks Challenge theme at The Butterfly Effect is "Underwater"
I'm surprised we are not all underwater with all the rain we've had this year :S
Was racking my brain trying to decide what to paint, when I remembered this photo I took several years ago at the Blue Ocean Centre in Newquay...

Can't top these fluorescent jelly fish , so I'm going to submit this photo.
Mother Natures magical paint palette always blows me away :D
And here is face no.19 of my 29 Faces in May
ANNIE

Angular features

Face no 17 for my 29 Faces for May
ANGELO
Sometimes I feel I need a break from intense images, and want to just play with markers :D
So I got out my Tyvek  Envelope journal and made a bright base with acrylic paint.
Next a very quick pencil sketch...
and attack of the Sharpie marker :D
I wondered if promarkers would work over acrylic... they did, but you have to be very careful as they reactivated the paint and wanted to "cake".

I love the simplicity of this piece and really enjoyed playing :D

Tomorrow something a bit different...all about ME :D

Once upon a time....

Face no.16 of my 29 Faces for May
PRINCE GRUMPY
This is the final page in my altered board book, so I thought I'd use it for one of my faces...
I used guache paints neat onto the collage base..
He looked grumpy...but also Regal some how :S
So I gave him a crown of gold with ermine(pearly stuff) trim.
All the fairytales I ever read focussed on the beautiful, hard done by, Princess...but what about all those poor young Princes? They had to go through all kinds of crappiness! No wonder he looks Grumpy!
I am linking this page to Dawn's Journal Journeys, themed this month "Once upon a time"
Enjoy :D XXX
