Zac-a-lantern!

This week Haunted Design House are having a Movie Madness "Pumpkinhead" challenge. I haven't seen the movie, but have been inspired by the DT's work .
I was supposed to be using this to do a "Surreal" piece for The Butterfly Effect this week, but reached one of those points where I felt I would spoil the piece if I did anything else to it, so I am going to try something else later :D

When doing a "pose" secret snaps of family members make a great starting point ;D (rubish photo but great for positioning and light source)

Print off onto copy paper so you can trace the body lines, and alter to suit your needs

I traced mine onto thin tissue, drew over with indian ink (sprayed with fixative) then glued to canvas.

Start adding colour(acrylic paints)

Build darker areas to accentuate the light, using original photo as a guide

Try and keep a continuation of colour throughout the piece to balance your picture

A few simple lines act to "ground " your image(so it isn't floating in mid air)
You can't see from the photos, but the highlights are done with metallic paints, which give a lovely warmth to the piece, like he is sitting by a roaring fire :D
I enjoyed keeping the brushwork quite loose and sketchy, Hope you enjoy it too :D XXX

This is Halloween!!

I love joining in with the "slightly creepy" challenges over at Burtonesque Dolls :D
This week they are challenging us to be inspired by the lyrics from any of the songs in "A Nightmare Before Christmas"

I have gone with a line from "This is Halloween" , "I am the shadow on the moon at night!"
and yes that is my shadow. the sun was so bright at Bridlington on sunday, that I got to take some very useful pics of shadows on the beach....cool huh!

I also found this fabby little di cutting thing from provo craft(cuttlebug dies), which I'd forgotten about in my stash, and used it to make the little embelli's .
The tree stamps are from Create a Scene by Creative Expressions.

I would like to enter the following challenges;

Meet the Husband!!!

This piece is purely for this weeks HDH Macabre Mondays Challenge#97 Loathsome Lotharios

I have again used the "trace from your own photo" method to create my main image, this time using a photo of hubby at a halloween do :D Cute huh!
Printed out on cheap copy paper, and coloured with markers. The dp is from Crafters Companions Fairyopolis cd.
Now this piece should make you think "eeoooow! I wouldn't want to meet him on a dark night!"..................but I sooooo would!! MWAHAhahahahah ;)

2nd post: Creepy but cute!

Got this little dude from Joanna Sheens online store(ordered friday afternoon, arrived saturday morning!!!!) He's on special offer at the moment so you might want to check it out :D
I thought he would be perfect for this weeks HDH Macabre Mondays challenge#96 Xtremely Xhaustive, use something long.

I created the mirror image by stamping him onto a piece of acetate, then turning him over and mounting him onto silver mirri card. The frame is another JS stamp.

I would like to enter this card for the following challenges;

Burtonesque Little Mermaid !

Now the current challenge at Burtonesque Dolls is to take a character and put him/her/it into a Tim Burton Movie....but I wanted to use a mermaid, so I drew what I thought Tim Burtons version of "The Little Mermaid" would look like. If it doesn't fit the actual challenge that's fine, just thought they might like to see it :D

These 2 pics were taken before completion, to show the foiling and embossing more clearly.
I used a cuttlebug folder(bird on grass, bird hidden behind portrait) to give a seaweedy feel, and Tim Holtz distress inks to age the dp layer(though that isn't showing too well on the pics)
The inspiration for the mermaid is this weeks HDH Macabre Mondays Challenge #94 "Menacing Mermaids, although she has been stuck in my head for quite some time ...mwahahahaha...

Challenges I would like to enter this for are;
Simon Says Stamp and Show# Metal(embossed background, inside surface of tomato puree tube and brads)
Sweet Dreams MWahahahaha....... :D

Well I got round to making another card for HDH Macabre Mondays Kuriously Korroded challenge....
but I couldn't shake the "doggy" thing :D
These 2 krazy characters are from Kenny K Downloads(who happen to be sponsoring HDHMM this week)
I made a jungle themed easel card, using distress inks and various leaf stamps(I have quite a few!!) Punched some more leafy thing to make garland borders as matting and layering, and embossed/sanded/and inked a piece of yellow card for the main background mat.
Couple of close-ups
, and a baaaaad joke wahwahwaaaaah! :D
Now I have to put any other challenges it fits at the top as blogger won't let me type below this pic grrrrrrrr.......

Wonderful excuse for a rant!!

The ladies at HDH Macabre Mondays have given us a wonderful excuse for a quick rant(we all need one now and again :D). This weeks challenge is "Pleasure and Pain", as in use something you love, AND something you hate!!
Now I have resisted cutting heads off teddy bears, but that means the "sweet widdle puddy tat" has to suffer instead.
Pleasures: Bees(yes I feed them with spoonfuls of honey in the cold spells), rubberstamping and Tim Holtz distress inks, tearing paper, doodling :)
Pains: Yellow card stock(bought a pack of 200 assorted sheets, 100 were this yellow!!!), cats(don't even get me started on that list!!), and "cootzie oochy coochy baby speak"
Now will I manage to find any challenges for this piece....doh! Meant to make it as a tag!!! See, too busy ranting to concentrate!!!

Challenges this fits...ish ;)
Corrosive Challenge#119 Summer colours(don't come any sunnier than that yellow card)
Crafty Anns Challenge#42 Use more than 1 image(made 2 cards for this already but forgot to link them up!!) Lots of different rubber stamps used.

Howling at the moon

Challenge90 at HDH Macabre Mondays, is to design a piece of artwork to be worn as a pendant. I don't have any jewelry making stuff, so I've doodled a piece instead.
The challenge is being sponsored by a company called "Kasket Kustoms: Accessories to DIE for!" (what a cool name :D)
Hope this counts as an entry, cos I'd love to wear it :D XXX
