And Finally...

Last day of National Poetry Writing Month. Your choice.
Thank you to everyone for commenting on my poems each day. It was a last minute decision to take part in the marathon event, and I wasn't sure I could manage to write something unique each day.
Hope I did, and hope you found at least one that meant something to you personally.
If nothing else, it certainly go me back into regular posting :D

What Big Teeth we have....

With my big eyes I watch you
as you plot and plan and scheme.

With my big ears I listen
as you rampage through your dream.

With my big nose I smell the sweetness
you combine with rot.

With my big hands I feel the heat
of Witchy passions hot.

With my big feet I join you as
you set us all a dance.

With my big limbs I back you up
when you need to make a stance.

But of all the "bigness" we both share
our great big teeth most grim.
Show everyone what dangers lurk
behind our Witchy grin.

For Magaly.
(yes I stole your photo :P )
Here's to many more years of following your wickedest of witchy footsteps :D

On a mission

Write 3 stanza's detailing what (if anything) you wish to accomplish with the poems you write this month. Or poetry writing in general.

Could I?

Would I ? Could I ? Should I ?
Share my poems in a book?
If I try to publish by myself
would anybody look?

Will I ? Can I ? Shall I ?
Take the time to document?
Is my phrasing even good enough
to warrant the time spent?

Maybe I should put me first.
Make my own words my pal.
And turn around a negative....
I will...I can....I shall !

Nothing exploded!

Terry Pratchett's Birthday. Make a quote into a poem.
This was an impossible task. How to choose from an almost endless list of genius?
Get hubby to pick one lol

"The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it!" (Truckers 1990)

(ChakrArt journal page)

Don't forget to take your rubbish home with you!

Isn't that just typical!
I had a real good Spring Clean out.
Ditched all those old worn out "Gonnas" and saggy tired "Wannas".
Saged and cleansed and purged the new spaces
ready to fill and file all the fresh "Wills" and "Shalls"

And here they all come...

Tramping on the tidy lawns of relaxation to dump their trash!
Pile after pile of "Now your not doing thats..."
Heaps and heaps of "Don't want you getting boreds..."
Followed by reams and reams of "Have you thought you might be happier ifs...".

I can't be held responsible for people confusing "Open mind" with "Open house".

But I am responsible for any trash I let them leave behind!

Lol....this was a really tricky assignment for me. All the quotes I read made me snigger with wicked intent. It seems to me the Mr Pratchett had an amazingly wicked sense of humour. Writing from his inspired quotes was easy...not offending or alienating all my lovely friends was what I was struggling with. (OMG...the "Schrodingers cat " quote!!!) Hubby decided the above quote had least scope for offence :D
Enjoy :D XXX

Cheer yourself up!

Write about a "holiday" invented by you.

Embrace your "Cuddle"

Today is a day I'd like to share,
To banish every woe and care.
If your just feeling "down" or caught a bug,
Grab yourself a "Cuddly" and give it a hug.

Whether grown man or woman, small girl or boy,
We are all allowed a "cuddly toy"
It lends us strength when we are sad,
and shows us love when times are bad.

So show some courage, come out, don't hide!
It's " International Cuddly Day"
So grin and "squeeee...." with Pride!

Whatever ails you...

Day 27 of NaPoWriMo with Magaly

"Metaphorically" sit in front of the thing/person that "ails you", and let your poem tell it/them exactly what's on your mind.

( Soul Food class with Mitsi B 2014)

Best the Devil you know!

I don't like you!
You are spoiling my fun and interfering with my life!
Just when I think I have you beaten, I turn around and there you are.... just waiting for the perfect moment to stop me in my tracks.
I get all excited about getting fit and healthy.
I make the effort.
Just a few days in and "BAM!"
You just can't help yourself can you, you spiteful little pain.
But I will pick myself up,
smother you and try again.
You insignificant little symptom.
Two surgical procedures you've caused me, and still you persist.
But you will NOT best me!

How do we cope?

Let us glimpse into how you ready yourself before facing known troubles, and what you do to cope once "mayhem" has done it's thing.

(another art journal page I made during one of my son's bad weeks)

Storm Watcher

Every morning I wake with a plan,
And stick to it as best I can.

Every morning the Storm appears,
And I steer the clouds to ward off fears.

Once the first storm's passed I breathe in deep,
And warn the school "he didn't get much sleep".

The middle of my day is calm and sweet,
while I write and paint and bare my feet.

This is the time when I get my rest,
And focus on all that I love best.

The next Storm brewing, did he have a good day?
Maybe, maybe not, no one can say.

So I keep his home both peaceful and calm,
And hope today he has come to no harm.

For the Storm will come I fear most of all.
That one day I'll forget, and let my guard fall.

That I'll fail to prepare, and he'll tear at his soul.
And the daemons that haunt him end up in control.

But for now we can hug to make everything fine.
Then eat ice-cream and trifle with this sweet boy of mine.

Women of strength.

Base a poem on a piece of art by a favourite artist.
One of my all time favourites is the deeply troubled
 Dante Gabriel Rossetti
(portrait by William Holman Hunt)

I have always been impressed with the "strength" he saw in his models. They can appear almost masculine in build, while showing the true grace of femininity.
He was also a poet, and wrote poems about all of his paintings...and he looks uncannily like Mr Poe don't you think?

"Beloved"
(aka The Bride of Solomon)

Beloved.

A jewel surround by precious gems
of multi-coloured hues.
That shine and sparkle in the sun.

Blossom that grows amidst the flowers
in the morning dew.
Cloaked in the luscious greens of your garden.

With eyes blinded by your singular beauty
I gaze upon you.
And my heart weeps with joy at your existence.

When sleep evades me...

Write about the intricate relationship between pain and sleep.

(from an old art journal)

My Companion, My Curse.

At night,
Awake,
I can only think of you.
You fill me with fear and sadness.
Why must you torment me so?
I followed your rules..
I obeyed your restrictions...
Yet you will not forgive my weakness.
Your claws scrape along my bones, making my muscles scream.
Yet I must remain silent.
I drift into unconsciousness,
but you drag me back, kicking and wriggling into the silence of night.
My mind begs for rest, as you poke and stab at my insides.
I need to sleep to hide from your assault.
Yet you despise the relief it would allow me.
So I will not sleep tonight...
My mind will not be still....
I will create instead.

A soft glow in the dark...

Set a poem within a story you have read.
Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien

(detail from an art journal page)

Softly glowing
In darkness we lay.
In silence we fear.
A blade that can slay
by my hand laying near.
It beckons to me
through the dark and the stink.
Too frightened to move,
Too exhausted to think.
Your soft subtle glow
warns of danger, not trust.
But to escape from this place,
touch you I must....

This could fit in many places within Tolkien's books, but I am often drawn back to a section not covered in the movies, when the hobbit's wake up inside a Barrow. (not even sure if I'm remembering properly...read it to my eldest when he was just 7 {now 25}. Must re-read that section)

Fiddle...de...dee!

Challenge the veracity of at least 3 negative thoughts

("La...La...!" painted for Soulfood 2014)

Back off Bitch!

How much do I REALLY care...
That I can't control my curly hair?
Jealous of your "flick" and flare...
Is wilder hair unfair?

How much DOES it matter...
That my hips have grown much fatter,
And tight jeans no longer flatter?
If I stamp, my foes still scatter.

How much DO I give a damn...
That at drama you are such a "ham",
And you "caring" is just a scam?
Not a lot...so SCRAM!

I though this one was going to be hard as I'm a pretty "positive" kinda gal. So I have to thank the mardy mare that is the main source of negative thoughts in my life for this one :D

Yum

Cook up a poem with a recipe in it.

Liquid Gold
With golden orbs of Eden's tree
and treasure from the tiny bee.
Mix well with juice
 straight from the Sun.
Bring joyful Mead for everyone.

Be Grateful...

Summon the green within.write a poem from the view point of a sentient tree who gets to address his/her keeper.

Glad to be alive.
At last I have the chance to speak with you Oh wondrous Goddess!
You honour me with the gift of life,
allowing me to provide food and shelter for so many.

You lend strength to my out-stretched limbs,
that I may embrace all who need me.
You send rain when I am thirsty and sun to warm my bones.

So I stand, ever as a symbol of your greatness,
arms held high in praise of your goodness.
While those around me fade to nothingness.

(kept reading the promt as "sentinal" instead of sentient)

With or without?

write a sensual poem ,to coffee or tea, or your favourite drink.

Heaven on my lips.

I sip my love from a china cup.
As all young ladies should.
But with creamy white froth
I will often sneak off,
with a coffee that's up to no good,

A steaming fresh cuppa,
both with or without,
will refresh me for most of the day.
But as bedtime draws near
it's the coffee I hear,
with it's milkiness coming my way.

Building on negativity...

show how negativity breeds negativity breeds negativity....

Dance of Death

I dream of you.
I wake sad.
I need a drink.
It makes me sadder.
I sleep.
I dream of you.
I wake sad...
Repeat.

Half way there....

Travel to a parallel but infinitely remote universe

Whimsical Worlds

In my alternative world
Plates wash themselves,
and the clothes are all folded
by purple-faced Elves.

The furniture likes it
as I rearrange,
We discuss all the options.
It's not as all strange.

The words that I'm writing
flow straight from my brain,
without pencil or pen
or fingers to train.

The suns are both smiling
in agate green sky,
and the Faeries sing sweetly
as blue cows fly by.

Now "my" alternative world's
not as distant as some,
but I promise you'll love it
so come join the fun!

Fifteen and growing.

Where were you when you were 15? What did you love or hate about the place? Write about the town/city where you spent the 15th year of your life.

(photo taken by my brother in the fields around our small town/village)

When "I" began...

This was the year "I" grew...
Now school was a serious thing.
O'levels and leaving school only months away.
What would I do then?
Teachers wanted me to go to college...
I knew even then that wouldn't happen.
Labourer for a father....
I would leave school and find work to help with the bills.
I had no real plans.
I came from the wrong village.
Maybe I would marry?
The boys had finally started to see me as a girl...
not their mate George.
I was voted "most likely to marry a farmer and have 10 kids".
Didn't sound like a bad plan...
Didn't happen.
I was confident enough to go with the flow...
and felt safe, walking alone
across fields and through woodlands that had watched "me" grow.

What's special about April?

List at least 3 activities you truly enjoy doing in April

Dirt under my nails
The first sunny days
Pass by in a haze,
But Spring is a time made for cleaning.
For tidying beds,
Removing dead heads,
And straightening things that are leaning.

So I'm throwing out trash,
And thinning my stash,
Creating with all that I find.
With paint and with pen,
Then I'm searching again.
So many new thoughts in my mind.

But my favourite thing
To be doing each Spring,
Is renewing the Love that I've grown.
For in April we wed,
Made our marital bed.
To have and to hold all my own.

Same old news...

Make a poem around a news headline from 1913
For this poem I found a story that lead the eminent Sir Arthur Conan Doyle to speak out publicly against the Suffragette movement...calling them "female hooligans", and likening their outrageous act to "blowing up a blind man and his dog"

The Nevill Pavillion April 11th 1913

Priorities?

Secretly sneaking.
Whispering, peeking,
Anger steaming,
Sparks the match.

Lampman screaming,
Firemen streaming,
Locals watching,
No one catch.

Smoke still curling,
Notes unfurling,
Poster glaring,
Blame attach.

Tar and feather
all together
"Female Hooligans!"
All same batch!

In 1913 a group of Suffragettes set fire to a prestigious cricket pavilion in protest at it's ban on the admittance of woman. They left behind a picture of the then imprisoned Emily Pankhurst.
The spark that ignited their rage was a comment made by an unidentified club official who, when asked, was reported to have replied
"It is not true that women are banned from the pavilion.
Who do you think makes the tea?"

Isolation

Alienation and detachment...

Alone by Choice?

When I tried to cut myself off from as much of humanity as possible
they came...
they swarmed...
they were happy to share my open space...

So I moved back.
Closer to the fold.
No need for long trips now.
And guess what?

No more visitors during the warm summer months.
No one seeking shelter and comforting food in the snowy weather.
No one visits me ever...

Maybe it wasn't me they were interested in seeing at all?

Think before you speak harshly to others...

Write from the point of view of a fictional character

(Toto)

RUN!!!

" I'll get you my pretty...and your little dog too!"
Those were your exact words...spat out with venom and hate.
What did I ever do to you?
A tiny little pup like me....harm an experienced Crafter like the magnificent Elphaba?
I trotted on...following my mistress, chasing Butterflies and Lions, but I just couldn't shake off the injustice of your words.
Now you hide, cowering under the Moon that birthed me, using poison blooms to trap my beloved.
There is one thing , however, you should be aware of...
My name is short for "Total Eclipse", from when the Moon over-powered the Sun on the day of my birth...
Ad I'm not such the "Little Dog" that you may have thought!

("...and her little dog too?")

Mwahahahaha....Enjoy :D XXX
