Is it Art O'clock yet?

I mentioned I'd been rearranging rooms

recently...and realised I no longer had a

clock in my Art room....

so  I made one :D

I took this old canvas I'd "borrowed" bits from...

and gave it a thick coating of gesso, 

scraping some extra texture as I went along.

 Been dying to try some "weak washes"...

 letting each layer dry*not my strong point lol*

 before adding another...

til I got this yummy crusty finish :D

I love the way Brenda Brown uses metal on her projects

*see her amazing projects at Bumblebees and Butterflies*

so I made myself a metal embellie by embossing an

old Tomato puree tube and cutting a piece out.

 Keeping to faded colour tones I collected some papers

to layer (distressing as I went along)...

 attaching everything with matt medium and tape.

 Really pleased with the final "grunginess" of the canvas

 and the depth created by the different washes.

I also used pencil around the edges of the individual elements

to add definition.

Now to position the "clock" mechanism.

 Once I decided where, I stamped a clock face onto

 tissue paper and glued it down with matt medium.

 I also added glazing medium to the clock face for

extra protection.

over all I am very pleased with my new

"Arty O'Clock"

A Doll is not just for Christmas...

over at Dream Valley Challenge

*using "Raggedy Anne and Andy dolls" from StarStampz*

I decided to use up another old canvas, 

which gave me a lovely dark base...

 roughed out with white gesso...

 Glued my hand coloured image into position

and pushed more gesso through stencils to add texture.

 Next a light wash of gesso over the whole piece

(avoiding coloured section)  to blend in edges.

 The members challenge at TTCRD this month is 

Tic/Tac/Toe, and I chose to use Red/Metallic/Green

 ...smooshed some red and green acrylic (being careful not to mix

as this would make a muddy mess) over the background,

before rubbing more white over the top.

 Now for the metallic.

Thick Gold embossing powder to form a frame...

 followed by watered down Bronze paint from Golden.

 Watering this paint down causes it to separate,

 leaving lovely verdi gris pools.

 I used the same Golden paint on chip board letters...

 and a little Verdi Gris embossing powder around the edges

to reinforce the

"left out in the rain" feel.

 as these little toys are clearly from Christmas's past.

So much texture...so much fun!

Soooo many photos!

I have been wanting to make something for this months challenge over at 

Country View Challenge

Cards are acceptable, but the DT always make such glorious altered pieces.

So here is my effort :D

I started with an old canvas that already had loads of texture...

 and covered it with layers of paint/alcohol inks...

 and gesso through stencils.

 When dry i used matt medium to apply floral tissue paper.

(actually it is a torn up serviette)

 Next step was to select papers to tear and ink(distress)

before layering again with medium.

 The flowers were disappearing so I cut some with my 

Tattered Lace dies...

 coloured with markers and embossing powders.

 I don't use the powders very often as they make me cough

so I stamped and embossed direct to the canvas too.

 When embossed the roses lost all their detail, so I over-stamped

with permanent ink... 

 before using silicone glue(which also makes me cough) to attach to canvas.

 I added gold embossing powder to frame the canvas...

 Loving all this yummy texture :D
