How do you like your eggs?

Sadly Quoth the Raven is shutting down til the Darker months return, but it won't stop me enjoying the macabre.
Yes it is Spring...
and the little birdies are laying new lives...
(polystyrene eggs)
 which some enjoy fried...
 some boiled...
 but I'm having mine "POE'd"
Dream in Darkness are taking part in the Macabre Stampers Blog Hop
and it reminded me of a stash of stamps I won from Stamp it Crazy many moons ago.
*and a couple of Poe stamps I won at QTR*
A little faux stitching to accentuate the images a la LOC Creative challenges

and we have the perfect recipe for
Even under the light of Spring, the Darkness never dies....

Last minute rush!...Moi?

The last few months I have been a really poor "Quother", so I was determined to make something for this months Challenge For the Love of Poe.
No surprise I got side tracked and missed Valentines.
I had been given a Knitting & Crochet mag at christmas, but the colours in it were not really me. I was inspired however by a pattern for a couple of love birds included...
a change of yarn and a few tweaks to the design...
 and a Valentine with a difference :D
He is a bit of a cheeky chap...
but that belies his broken heart as he searches for a lost love...
Mayhaps he is the Raven that visited Mr Poe in his boudoir?
As to the creature that distracted me this month...
meet Mavis.
She is still feeling a little worse for wear...
but her daisies are blooming beautifully..mwahahaha.....
These two may be a little on the cute side for some,
but I would like to enter them in Forever Dark 2s February challenge

Enjoy :D XXX

Science! Bah!

Challenge #46 at Quoth the Raven is "POEtry"...make something inspired by a specific Poe Poem.
I have chosen ...

Sonnet - To Science

SCIENCE! true daughter of Old Time thou art!
Who alterest all things with thy peering eyes.
Why preyest thou upon the poor poet's heart,
Vulture, whose wings are dull realities?
How should we love thee? or how deem thee wise,
Who wouldst not leave him his wandering
To seek for treasure in the jewelled skies
Albeit he soared with an undaunted wing?
Hast thou not dragged Diana from her car?
And driven the Hamadryad from the wood
To seek a shelter in some happier star?
Hast thou not torn the Naiad from her flood,
The Elfin from the green grass, and from me
The summer dream beneath the tamarind tree?
So how do you make a tamarind tree....
 pipe cleaners and tape...
 plaster bandages....
 and paint :D
Then punch out some leaves (I know the leaves are wrong but I couldn't find my other punch)and cut out a few Tamarind stylie pods.
Next the Vulture which is Science...
 pipe cleaners, foil and tape...
more bandages paint and a few feathers :D
And Poe can once more dream of summer beneath the Tamarind tree.

Also entering this piece for Forever Dark#2 and Dream in Darkness#3 both Anything Goes (as long as it is dark) and Left of Center challenge #86 Tic tac Toe (unless something LOC) and I'm guessing a Vulture is pretty unusual lol
And now I think I need to make a smaller Poe lol

We all can have a Darkside too....

OK...so even I struggle to find my dark muse when I'm in a sunny garden, so it's taken me a little longer than usual to make a piece for this months challenges at Quoth the Raven and Forever Dark....
But find her I did :D

Quoth the Raven challenged us to find inspiration from this film poster...
while Forever Dark gave us free reign to just get creepy mwahahaa....
and this is what I have come up with...
From the poster I took the minimalism, a lone male figure, wings/feathers and movie style title.
The title and tag line are a quote from Poe's "Spirits of the Dead"
"Thy soul shall find itself alone, 'mid dark thoughts of...THE GREY TOMBSTONE!"

And this is how I created it...
Made*cough* Asked my son to balance on a rock in a useful pose...
very quick outline sketch to get rough body position...
started working over with layers of soft pastel/charcoal
(spraying regularly with fixative)
Worked over sealed pastels with posca paint pens to add definition..
 *Has feathery hair*
Quite a simple technique, but I think very effective

Enjoy :D XXX

OOW...just found another Dark challenge site while stalking...
so i will be sharing there too :D XXX
