It's that time again...when the devoted /obsessed return to Oz to reaffirm our devotion. As a relative newcomer, I often find myself questioning the truth behind the adored characters, and Oma Linda has given us a chance to voice those questions with her awesome ALTERED OZ challenge
So I give you Glinda, the "good" witch of the North
Glinda was not always as "good" as her name implies...
in her youth, her beauty was renowned throughout Oz...
her soft auburn locks and sultry blue eyes drew them in like flies, but Glinda was a "good" girl!
Until the Wizard arrived...
Like a moth to the flame Glinda was drawn to the Emerald city...
and got herself a job in one of the more select "Gentlemen's Clubs", and it wasn't log before her latent ability to create glistening bubbles from thin air began to wow the crowds.
She changed her name (for artistic reasons) to Poppy, and wore a red velvet gown as she performed.
Fortunately for Glinda, some of her greatest fans become elders in the Lillipop Gild, and they helped her hide her more seedy past, although in private they still dream of "Poppy and her dance of a million bubbles"
Enjoy :D XXX
This made me laugh so much, Gina, the painting, the accompanying story, and the whole idea behind your life of Poppy.
ReplyDeleteAnd she's beautifyl, in spite of her shady past. Gives me a good start to the day.
Oh YES!!! I'll have some of what she's having LOL!!! A little X in Oz (wonderful) totally aLtEReD methinks :)
ReplyDeleteOh Gina that made me giggle, fabulous art (as always)!
ReplyDeleteSuch Fun! lol naughty Poppy and a stunning drawing :0)
ReplyDeleteShe might be the good one but she looks naughty to me. :)) Love her!
ReplyDeleteSmiling ;) Great painting....great story too.

"Good" is such a relative word, isn't it? She was gorgeous and you showed that with your colors. She was herself and you showed that with your words. I think Glinda was just Glinda, a woman who did what she was allowed with the tools at her disposal. And like you, I believe that she didn't always do good.
ReplyDeleteHappy aLtEReD oZ.
Oh she is very good at being naughty....love it. You have completely redefined "goodie two shoes" into what I thought all along and that is Poppy....goodie two boobs is smoking hawt. What a fabulous alter you created. The story wove a wonderful effect and your painting is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for being a part of Celebrate Oz, I'd say you more than did Oz proud. I so appreciate your being a part of this lovely insanity. Smooches and Squoozes, Oma Linda
I love Poppy! She is one sexy, sassy, woman! I bet she wowed everyone, on stage ;o) Happy Altered Oz ;o)
ReplyDeleteLove the art and your story made me smile.
ReplyDeleteHugs xx
Fab! Love the progress shots :)
ReplyDeleteAwesome. Glinda never looked so good.
ReplyDeleteMary
Now, this is a Glinda I could be friends with! Love the story and adore the artwork - so cool seeing the 'process' of your picture!
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed that reinvention of herself story and the painting progression. She's terrific ♥
ReplyDeleteHahaha I love naughty but good Glinda...and what wonderful artwork!
ReplyDeleteWonderful artwork! I love the idea of a Glinda bubble dancer, but where do you tuck the dollar bills?
ReplyDeleteIt is appropriate that she wears red as she is actually the Good Witch of the South and Ruler of the Quadling Country, of which red is the favored color. The reason she became Good Witch of the North in the 1939 MGM Wizard of Oz film is so she could make it snow and save the day for Dorothy. Kinda hard to make it snow in the south! Global Warming hasn't hit Oz just yet! BTW, if you ever Google early pictures of Billie Burke, who played Glinda in the movie, you'll notice that she was one freakin' hot babe!!! Thanks for the aLtEReD oZ 2013 contribution.

Oh Glinda! You sound like my type of gal!
ReplyDeleteHAHHAHAHAHHAHA!! And I'm sure Champagne bubbles were included! I bet The Wizard wasn't "The Great Oz" either..Glinda would be able to tell us for sure!Love the art!!!
ReplyDeleteI knew it!! Miss Goodie-goodie is not what she seems! Love the story and the art!
ReplyDeleteI have always suspected Glinda of such wildness. Traveling around in a pink bubble...really, who does that? ;-)
ReplyDeleteThis is magnificent! The story as well as the art. Thank you for such a magical time!
Well I don't know how "good" she was but I can tell you one thing for sure, your Glinda is beyond good!
ReplyDeleteIf it makes you feel any differently in the book Glinda is actually a rather old munchkin, no pink bubble or anything. Real down to earth :)
Gorgious painting.
Sorry it took me so long to get back to you I have been ill. I love what you did.
Hugs
