Well Hello !!!

Yes I am still alive, I just got caught up modding a FaceBook Group.

IKR! Can you imagine how insane you'd have to be to leave me

incharge? mwahahahaha...the POWER!!!

Anyhoo, I have been making junk/journals with free digi papers, 

while also doing this years Life Book course over at 

Willowing.com

so I thought I'd show you a few pieces I've done so far...

My word for 2024 is "SERENITY"

so I chose a colour palette to work in that I find both 

calming and peaceful

(cos we could all use a bit of calmness after the past few years)

Back to the very beginning...

Gosh...it has literally been months since I 

have done a DT post for 

CRAFTING WITH FRIENDS
challenge #76 JFF

and as there is no sponsor I am free to play :D

I decided, as it will be my last post for CWF,

it would be nice to re visit the sponsor of my very

first CWF dt challenge

KJ ARTING

(Sleeping Beauty)

I started by printing the image onto vellum(tissue would have been better
but I couldn't find it)

 I prepped my journal page by spritzing paint, then gluing
the image over the top.
Once dry I added white gesso to the "skin" areas.

 Addd skintones with acrylic paint
and colour washes with Zig watersoluble pens.

 Time for a few doodles and darkening around
the edges to focus the image.

 Highlighted with white poska pen,
stamped sentiment and lightbulb from
"Visible Image"
and washi word "Shine" I made myself
from used masking tape.

I am really enjoying getting back into art journalling.

It's great for "messy" art when time is short :)

 to use as journals, and decided to use the black one

for this course.

My little book of ME

Week 2 of Tam's ART, HEART and HEALING e-course(free)

she showed us how to alter a board book to use as an art journal.

*was Little Red Riding Hood*

 Got this one from The Works for £1 and it has lots of pages

so I can do lots of moments from my life that made me who

I am today *and I quite like me so that's cool*

 These books always have shiny "wipeclean" pages

so it is important to create a surface things can cling to...

I used matt medium and book pages, 

followed by a thin coat of gesso.

 Then to decorate the cover.

I'm enjoying the bright flowers in my garden at 

the moment, so went with a fiery orange from

the Day lilies (not a colour I often use*

and then "worked" on a photo of ME that makes me smile

*as suggested in the class*

I like how penetrating my eyes are...(cws)

and how "determined" I look :D

because I am nothing if not "determined".

Keeping one's distance

Playing with Amy has inspired me

 to give Art Journaling another try.

Art journals are a great place to rid yourself of any

negativity, just dumping "annoyances" can be very

liberating.

I chose another page and covered it with white gesso,

(including the extra fold out page)

 leaving the acetate butterfly window visible...

and started to add my layout.

 I loved how the portrait turned out, 

BUT

she was lost in the busy spread. 

My intention was to distance myself from "drama"

and enjoy the butterflies...

however, every time I looked at the page it just reminded

me of the annoyance I was trying to avoid.

Whenever I want to chill I turn to people who make me think of 

butterflies and rainbows(cos even a dark soul like mine needs the

occasional sunny smile), and have been watching a few of 

Tamara Laporte's Youtube vids. 

 That's how after all these years I actually got round to 

visiting her web page...and discovered the free mini e-course

she set up!!!! 

*to be fair I was a bit busy in 2010 when she was setting it up* 

 So I followed her advice and tried to find

 the positive from the negative...

 softened the pages making them "whole"...

 and reclaimed my peace :)

 I didn't even mind the accidental splattering

on the portrait as they looked like freckles...

 and I put plenty of "Distance" between myself and

my stress.

Crazy Hair day...

This weeks challenge at LOC is Crazy Hair

I have always loved drawing "crazy hair" on my faces, so when I started my page for a friends art journal it was no surprise that it fit with the new challenge :D

 Here are a few "in progress" shots.

 Pencil sketch worked over with mikron fine liner.

 I usually use paint or markers to colour, but really felt the urge to try coloured pencils on this piece...

 building up layers of colour...

darkening the background...

 then adding a little fine detail.

Writing this post I realised I haven't been sharing the pages I have made for this circle journal.
