Women of strength.

Base a poem on a piece of art by a favourite artist.
One of my all time favourites is the deeply troubled
 Dante Gabriel Rossetti
(portrait by William Holman Hunt)

I have always been impressed with the "strength" he saw in his models. They can appear almost masculine in build, while showing the true grace of femininity.
He was also a poet, and wrote poems about all of his paintings...and he looks uncannily like Mr Poe don't you think?

"Beloved"
(aka The Bride of Solomon)

Beloved.

A jewel surround by precious gems
of multi-coloured hues.
That shine and sparkle in the sun.

Blossom that grows amidst the flowers
in the morning dew.
Cloaked in the luscious greens of your garden.

With eyes blinded by your singular beauty
I gaze upon you.
And my heart weeps with joy at your existence.

Enjoy :D XXX

  1. Love the various bits of imagery you used regarding beauty. I could almost hear the lover taking in a deep breath as he looked at his beloved.

  4. I actually moaned when I finished reading this poem. I can hear the speaker's love for the art in every word. And the weeping at the end? Beautifully for the senses.

I love the fact that we are both attracted to artists who are a tad unsettling... I guess that explains a lot. CWS. ♥

  6. "I gaze upon you.
And my heart weeps with joy at your existence.." i love that--and that is how art should make you feel. I love both the Rosettis--his sister Christina was a gifted poet as well.
