The Butterfly Effect's Theme this week is FRIDA Kahlo.
I didn't know much about this lady, other than lots of people like t reproduce her distinctive images of herself.
I chose to work from an early photograph, yet still managed to get the somewhat "stern" appearance.
I worked with water-soluble oils and dry brushes on 230gsm water-colour paper...
keeping my palette simple, and using burnt/earthy tones.
This is stil a work in progress, as I want to get quite a "rich" effect in the overall picture by using deeper more vibrant colours, as well as metallic effects and patterns.
Not blogging much as the sun came out long enough to attack the garden, and I have a busy week(especially Wednesday :D)
Enjoy :D XXX
Love your Frida, Gina! :) I have missed your posts and I have the sun to blame. :)

ReplyDeleteHey Gina, Great to hear from you! Your Frida is excellent! I have to admit, I don't know to much about her either. I hope you are having fun gardening ;o) Hugs ;o)
ReplyDeleteLovely work Gina....I must find out more about her.
ReplyDeleteHugs xx
It certainly is a nice look with deep frida. Greetings.
ReplyDeleteYour Frida portrait is perfect.
ReplyDeleteYour painting is fantastic and I can't wait to see it finished. You have captured the pain and suffering she had to endure most of her life.
ReplyDelete♥♥♥ your painting! I am a big fan too and I hope I find the time for this wonderful challenge ;)
ReplyDeleteI love Frida...Love this portrait of her. Will look forward to seeing her finished! :) Have fun in the garden. Enjoy the sun.
ReplyDeleteI have not been a Frida follower either but i love your piece here. I never try oils, it always seems like it will be too much work or something, but you've done so well with them here!
ReplyDeleteDry brush on watercolour board makes them dry quicker :D
DeleteGina, I think this a great likeness!
ReplyDeleteLove your Frida. Here in Italy she is quite unknown. :)
ReplyDeleteI really like Frida, but the weird thing is that although I find her art lovely (I LOVE creepy surrealism) what I find more intriguing is her life.
ReplyDeleteI think you captured the eyes, for they always reflected the rest of her life. Mysterious and stern, as if she had to much to hold in her heart.
YES!! What Magaly said about the eyes! I've often wondered what would have been the key to unlock the secrets behind the eyes.
DeleteGreat job Gina!!!
