We all can have a Darkside too....

OK...so even I struggle to find my dark muse when I'm in a sunny garden, so it's taken me a little longer than usual to make a piece for this months challenges at Quoth the Raven and Forever Dark....
But find her I did :D

Quoth the Raven challenged us to find inspiration from this film poster...
while Forever Dark gave us free reign to just get creepy mwahahaa....
and this is what I have come up with...
From the poster I took the minimalism, a lone male figure, wings/feathers and movie style title.
The title and tag line are a quote from Poe's "Spirits of the Dead"
"Thy soul shall find itself alone, 'mid dark thoughts of...THE GREY TOMBSTONE!"

And this is how I created it...
Made*cough* Asked my son to balance on a rock in a useful pose...
very quick outline sketch to get rough body position...
started working over with layers of soft pastel/charcoal
(spraying regularly with fixative)
Worked over sealed pastels with posca paint pens to add definition..
 *Has feathery hair*
Quite a simple technique, but I think very effective

Enjoy :D XXX

OOW...just found another Dark challenge site while stalking...
so i will be sharing there too :D XXX

I have read all of the 'Mortal Instrument' books. The further into the books, the more grusome they became. Your winged 'Forever Dark' drawing reminds me of some of the characters in those books. It's nice your son posed for you. Lovely piece of artwork.
